PVZ Battle for Neighborville Characters

Character/Concept Lead

My role on the Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighborville began as a look dev artist during pre-production and later evolved into a concept lead and finally into the primary character lead during live services. These are a small sampling of my favorite character assets that I produced for the project.

All of the character work was highly collaborative throughout the project and the models featured here were no exception. See the image captions for the main contributors in each piece. Major credits go to Emerson Oaks, the senior art director who oversaw the project, Sean Mcmurchy, the character AD who directed customization designs and Josef Kainz, the CG sup who developed the beautiful shaders that brought these characters to life in our PBR environment.

My proudest contribution to the project was the sculpting of the base zombie which was either included or referenced in every zombie character in the game. I was very grateful to have had the opportunity to iterate with Emerson Oaks and David Lam (Senior Character Lead) on this.

My favorite character in the game is the Pea Shooter, believe me, he was sculpted and textured with much love. Overall this was one of my dearest projects to have worked on. I enjoyed the playful art style and made many good friends from who I learned a whole lot from.

Thanks for having a look!

Cheers,

Alex

I provided the Sculpt and Texturing for this character. I'd like to credit Gavin Yastremski for the smart material development. Baking and additional substance painter support was also provided by David Lam, and Maciej Kroll.

The scientist depicted here was the first character developed for the game and was used as the visual target for future characters. Look dev work was a 50/50 split between myself and David Lam.
